Ginger Ficus Information
Binomial Name:
Ficus microcarpa
Special Notes:
Also known as Chinese banyan, Hill’s weeping fig, small-fruited fig, Malayan banyan, Indian laurel, or curtain fig.
This tree is usually recommended as a beginner friendly bonsai, and goes by many names. I like to call it a ginger ficus because it looks similar to ginger root, but this is something different I’m quite sure. It’s tough and hardy, and was looking like it was starting to wilt when I started caring for it, which is one reason these trees are recommended as a first bonsai tree. Eventually this tree was given to me and is now under my care full time. I don’t have a lot of plans for it right now as I love the pot that it is in, and I want to encourage it to grow more and more branches before I try any pruning or training. Likely the only thing that will happen to this bonsai is a re-potting before fall.
