A penjing containing many Douglas Fir trees, miniature houses, and animal figures.
My lilac with pink blooms, in a green rectangular pot, sitting between my incense cedar and western hemlock bonsais.

Dwarf Korean Lilac

Dwarf Korean Lilac Information

Binomial Name:
Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’

Special Note:
Technically a shrub, not a tree. Still pretty, though.

This beautifully blooming and delightfully fragrant lilac was given to me by the parents of my past roommate. I transferred it from an even more beautiful pot, in my opinion, but I did manage to find this delightful glazed pot to make it’s home. With the help of some plant identification programs, I believe the specific variety of lilac I have here is Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’, also known as a dwarf Korean lilac.

I’m not exactly sure this qualifies as a “bonsai” or not yet. Most of the other bonsai lilacs I’ve seen online have a more defined trunk with a lot of branches coming from that. But this one could just simply grow differently and have multiple branches. Maybe I can train this one into more of a penjing, with a small “forest” of lilac trees. I will have to wait a few years to see what grows and what the future will hold.
